Ovarian cancer begins in the ovaries which are required for reproduction, and affects women generally over the age of 55.
Ovarian cancer is a cancer that affects woman. It is very difficult to diagnose as the symptoms associated with it are often very vague and are often passed off as another ailment by the patient and/or doctor. Ovarian cancer is very rarely diagnosed in the early stages only 20% of cases are diagnosed early.

Ovarian cancer symptoms are often vague and are blamed on common conditions leading to the cancer most often spreading further than the ovaries and into the body. Symptoms include: bloating, difficulty eating or feeling full quickly, pelvic or abdominal pain, abnormal menstrual cycles, digestive issues, sense of pelvis heaviness, swollen abdomen, unexplained back pain, vaginal bleeding, lower abdominal pain, weight loss or gain, excessive hair growth, and increased urinary frequency or urgency.
Ovarian cancer is the 5th most common cancer among women and causes more deaths than any other type of female reproductive cancer. The cause of the cancer is unknown however there are factors that will affect ones risk for developing the cancer, such as:
◆The more children a women has and the earlier she does so in her life will lower her risk
◆Some women carry a gene for the disease, especially those with breast cancer in their family
◆Older women are at a higher risk
◆Estrogen replacement therapy patients for 5 or more years have a higher risk
◆Those on birth control bills lower their risk for the cancer.
This cancer generally affects older women. 2/3 of deaths from ovarian cancer are women over the age of 55. The risk is much lower for younger women, 25% of deaths from ovarian caner are women between the ages of 35-54.
